Digbi Health’s precision digital care program for Mental Health Achieves Key Clinical Outcomes

The first precision digital therapeutics platform using ethnic and gender-specific genomics and gut microbiome risks and insights has helped members of a large health plan in California improve mental health endpoints.   MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. May 31, 2021 -- Digbi Health today announced topline results from a real-world study of 275 people evaluating Digbi Health’s efficacy in reducing mental health severity among people struggling with weight and other inflammatory chronic conditions. 275 Digbi Health members participated in the real-world study. At the beginning of the program, 41 percent reported suffering from mental health issues. After participating in the program and losing 5 percent of their body weight, members reported improvements with anxiety by 33 percent, depression, and brain fog or memory challenges by 35 percent. “I now have clarity, and earlier I would have a foggy brain and couldn’t think or concentrate,” said member Kristie E. “Anxiety and depression are highly associated with other whisper illnesses - digestive, skin, and obesity,” said Ranjan Sinha, Founder, and CEO of Digbi Health. “Mental health is also intrinsically linked to gut health. The human gut microbiome is responsible for the synthesis and metabolism of critical neurotransmitters and hormones, implicating gut health in the so-called “gut-brain axis.”  Digbi targets some of the root causes of anxiety and depression by improving gut health and supporting it with cognitive behavior therapy. Mental Health is a whisper illness, and we are determined to ensure our members have the tools to be their happiest selves,” he said. According to a recent study in JAMA Network Open, Americans gained about 1 1/2 pounds every month during stay-at-home orders last year.1 At the same time, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 2 in 5 are struggling with mental health issues, and 31 percent reported struggling with anxiety and depression symptoms.2 In a systematic review published in JAMA Psychiatry, results showed a reciprocal link between depression and obesity. Obesity is proven to increase the risk of depression, especially for people in the US and in particular for people with clinically diagnosed depression. In addition, depression is found to be predictive of developing obesity.3 Among the Digbi Cares program participants, 72 percent saw an 8.92 percent average weight loss, and members with pre-diabetes or diabetes have seen an average decline of 1.01 percent in their A1C levels. In addition, 75 percent experienced reduced Irritable Bowel Syndrome and acid reflux; 75 percent experienced relief from headaches/migraines; 66 percent decreased their anxiety, and 66 percent lowered their chronic pain. Digbi Cares™ is the next-generation, prescription-grade digital therapeutic platform that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze genetics, gut bacteria, lifestyle habits, socioeconomic and behavioral risk patterns to create evidence-based personalized nutrition, fitness, sleep and stress management program proven to reduce weight, reverse weight-related inflammatory gut, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and insulin-related illnesses. Since its launch last July, employees from over 50 government agencies in California have enrolled in the program. Of the employees enrolled, 70 percent have reduced their weight and obesity-related cardiovascular, gut, chronic pain, and immunity health risks. Digbi Cares™ programs are fully covered by a large health plan in California accessible through their wellness navigation platform. "As a nurse testing for COVID-19 and a mom of four young children, I needed to take time to focus on my physical and mental health. I have hyperthyroidism, eczema, and acne from stress. I've been doing high-intensity workouts to try and lose weight with little results. I'm now down 15 pounds in six weeks, doing yoga and have cleared up my skin conditions just through diet and lifestyle changes with Digbi," said Denise H., a nurse with the County of Ventura. Denise shared that a group of nurses at the County of Ventura are taking advantage of the program and are seeing results. The program is not just about weight loss but focuses on all health including mental, physical, and gut health. "Health and wellness for our employees and first responders are our first priority," said Rob Davenport, Wellness Manager for County of Ventura. "Digbi has been a true partner by providing webinars on various health topics, coupled with offering personalized weight management programs based on each person's DNA and gut biome to all of our employees." "Digbi Health is filling a critical gap in remote digital care. These disease risks vary significantly by gender and ethnicity because they are rooted in the genetics and gut microbiome of the individual. Government employees are essential workers and our team felt it is important for Digbi Health to provide them the opportunity to understand their health on the deepest level and protect themselves and their family," said Ranjan Sinha, CEO, and Founder of Digbi Health. "My doctor told me if I didn't lose weight I would die, but didn't tell me how. I was pre-diabetic and on the border for high cholesterol. Now after two and a half months in the program I'm down 15 pounds and I have so much energy I'm bouncing off the walls in the morning. My job is stressful and I feel like the program has helped me during shelter-in-place to be more productive and focused," said Victoria W., City and County of San Francisco. About Digbi Health Digbi Health is the first prescription-grade digital care company that uses AI to harness gut microbiome, genetic, lifestyle and behavioral risk signals to help people reverse or reduce risk of obesity and gut-related inflammatory illnesses like IBS, acid reflux, musculoskeletal disorders, insulin-related disorders, hypertension, kidney stone, and elevated cholesterol. Digbi Health - WVU in a research partnership to explore the relationship between personalized postoperative weight loss, genetics, and the gut microbiome

At Digbi Health, we continue to look for better solutions in personalized wellness and care. To this effect, we are proud to announce an upcoming research collaboration with The West Virginia University Medicine Medical and WVU Bariatrics Surgical Weight-Loss Program. The study will utilize Digbi Health’s personalized digital therapeutics platform to better understand the role of the gut microbiome and human genetics in postoperative weight loss and maintenance. The clinical pilot will evaluate the effectiveness of Digbi Health’s obesity management digital program personalized to each bariatric surgery patient, one-year post sleeve gastrectomy. It will be fine-tuned based on the patient’s lifestyle, genetics, and gut microbiome risks to assist with weight loss as well as maintaining a healthy weight. Through this collaboration with WVU Medical, we aim to further explore the critical importance of personalized nutrition and its direct impact on people suffering from obesity and associated metabolic illnesses. A long-term solution for Obesity Obesity is a complex metabolic disease and an ongoing global epidemic, with associated inflammatory, digestive, musculoskeletal, skin morbidities. Moreover, it is a risk factor for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, COVID-19, and could lead to reduced life expectancy. Bariatric surgery is an effective long-term intervention for morbid obesity. Yet, to reap the best outcomes from bariatric surgery, the patients need to make lifelong healthy changes in eating patterns. Social support is also a major factor in making the changes stick. Research indicates that individuals’ genetic and gut microbiome are intrinsically linked to their metabolism. Digbi Cares’ personalized meal plans and nutrition guidelines are curated to an individual’s genetic and gut microbiome markers, thus contributing to successful post-op weight loss and helping with weight maintenance. Nova Szoka MD, FACS, FASMBS, Assistant Professor at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, WVU Bariatrics Surgical Weight-Loss Center is the principal investigator of the study. Dr. Skoza has said that “WVU Bariatrics is excited to partner with Digbi Health to better understand how genomic, gut microbiome, and metabolomic factors can contribute to successful weight loss following bariatric surgery.”
